Setting up ZoT!

  • 1.  Make a folder called ZoT! anywhere on your hard drive you want.

  • 2.  Unzip ZoT!.zip to this folder.

  • 3.  Extract an emulator to the proper folder.  Make sure the emulator executable and all its supporting files are in the ROOT of the  proper folder.

(many emulators make a folder for themselves on install.  you'll have to move the contents)

  • 4.  Run each emulator and make any adjustments to the settings you may want.  ZoT! only allows point-and-click gaming once the emulator is configured properly.    Many emulators are fine with the default settings given at installation, others may need some tweaking.

  • 5.  Many emulators require BIOS files.  This is a digital copy of the system's original operating system.  I can't legally tell you where you find them, but Google it; you'll be fine.

  • 6.  Move all of your roms, isos, games, videos and graphics to the proper folder

  • 7.  Start up ZoT! and play games....

Why won't my MAME setup work with ZoT!?

  • Make sure you have downloaded ZoT!.zip, copy the ZotKey.ZoT file to the root of your MAME folder (same folder as the MAME executable)

How do I add graphics for screen grabs, gameplay videos or retail boxes?

  • In the directory that contains a specific emulator's roms or game files, place other files named exactly as the rom or game name in the same directory.   (i.e. if the rom file is named "pacman.zip", you would name a retail box "pacman.jpg", a screen grab "pacman.gif" and a video "pacman.mp4".)

  • The file extensions and types need to be different so they can all be in the same directory without duplicates being created.
